Question:

What is the average temperature in the summer? ‘at night?

Answer:

Unfortunately, the temperatures and weather conditions are also changing here and there is no longer an average. It has become warmer in the recent years, but fortunately enough snow in the winter.

We live at 1150 meters, which means that the sun is brighter. With 18 degrees Celsius, it feels very warm.

The weather in the mountains is more extreme, the temperatures can move up and down quickly. In practice, that means you need to bring clothing for all weather conditions. There is no bad weather, only bad clothes!

Question:

Where is the nearest supermarket?

Answer:

In Ramsau center there is a Spar and a Billa. In Schladming you can find a Hofer (Aldi), Penny, Spar, Billa and Lidl.

Question:

Why is it not possible to get hot food at the campsite?

Answer:

Apart from the fact that the hotels and restaurants cannot get enough cooks, we are too small to run a profitable restaurant.

Restaurants can be found from 2 km away.

Question:

Why can’t we get the Summer Card at the campsite and why can’t we buy it ourselves like in other Provinces in Austria?

Answer:

Why Camping Dachstein is not a summercard partner:

The province of Styria has decided that the card cannot be purchased separately for guests but is linked to an overnight stay. This means that we have to double the prices on the campsite for all people, every night. Both campsites in Ramsau have not chosen for the summercard to keep the campground affordable. On average, guests stay longer than a few days and walking, cycling or climbing a lot. The guest will not benefit from an expensive overnight stay if you can only go to the glacier once a week. In addition, the Dachsteinstreet the Bachlalm and Silberkarklamm are not a summercard partner and must be paid for.

We have opted for the guest house because on average guests stay shorter and pay much more for a room. A price increase turned out to be no problem.

Unfortunately, guests are not allowed to choose themselves whether or not they want a summer -card that would have been perfect.

You can make a combination with the guesthouse to get paid for the expensive dachstein and planai lift, for example.

Question:

Why can’t the cars stand next to the tents / caravans?

Answer:

The surface is grass on the campsite. We put a lot of effort into keeping the surface smooth and good. We have on average many tents and children at the campsite. For the tents it is nice if there are deep traces of water under the tent. For the children it is nice that they can play without cars getting in the way.

There are always exceptions, but we try to get the cars outside the campsite as much as possible.

Question:

Why can’t we choose our place ourselves?

Answer:

If there are free places, you can of course choose yourself. In the high season I want to keep the freedom to move around with guests so that all places are used optimally. I try to look as much as possible at the size of the tent / camper and the wishes from guests.

Question:

Why are the washing machines in the guest house?

Answer:

There is no space on the campsite for washing machines.

For a longer duration of the machines someone helps with the laundry. The laundry can be hung inside or outside and whether we ensure that the laundry is dried in the dryer.

Question:

Is it really necessary to bring snow chains? Even if you have 4×4?

Answer:

Yes! The roads are kept well free of snow and salt and or stones are scattered, which does not mean that it can be very slippery, especially when the temperatures are around freezing level, or there is a lot of snowfall. In addition, Ramsau lies on a plateau, which you have to go up and down. On the road to Schladming the regular chain duty is also for 4 x 4. The guesthouse and campsite is on a 10% slope road which can also be slippery. Our advice is always to bring chains. Saving on this is expensive if you make damage to your own or other cars.

Chains are available at a distance of 2 km, but renting or buying at home is cheaper.

Tip; practice at home. The circumstances in which the chains must be laid are usually unfavorable; dark, cold, steep slope, snowfall and a journey behind you.
